Summary: DO NOT burn your money...don't buy this one! 2006-05-30
Comment: Well darn clever design but it's just criminal the parts used to make
it. I had mine two weeks before it was completely destroyed by a summer
rainstorm. The top inside piece that holds the rib supports together in
the middle is made of PLASTIC and one nice windstorm and it cracked
which means all the ribs have come apart and collapsed.
Also, had the same problem with the handle, mine came broken...very
cheap metal.

Summary: Defective junk - DO NOT BUY 2006-05-15
Comment: This is unequivocally a piece of poorly made, defective junk. The manufacturer, Bond Manufacturing, deserves to go out of business for trying to foist such garbage on consumers.
The crank handle had snapped off the first one we received -- rendering it completely useless because the design doesn't make such a part replaceable in and of itself -- so we returned it and had a replacement shipped to us.
The second one turned out to have a defective pedal (which one normally depresses with the foot to rotate the gazebo). It wouldn't stay up, meaning the gazebo was free to rotate in any breeze. We didn't discover this until after a few days had passed and the wind had picked up, by which time we had tossed out the box.
The customer service rep suggested returning it in the box that would come with yet another replacement, so that's what we decided to do. When the third one arrived, it turned out to have a crank handle that had been bent inwards and could not be used. We then decided to mix and match -- i.e., use the umbrella/pole /crank handle from the second one (with the defective base pedal) and use the base from the third one.
All seemed to be going well for a couple of days, until we lowered the gazebo (raising and lowering frequently took a fair amount of strength to turn the crank handle) and tried to open it again. It opened, but wouldn't stay open -- when the crank handle was let go, it would just whir back in the other direction and the thing would close.
What kind of manufacturer tries to sell such shabby and defective merchandise to consumers? An outfit named Bond Manufacturing, that's who. Considering the time and effort I've wasted with this piece of junk (and money spent on patio stones, tapcon screws, drill bits, etc.), the characters running Bond Manufacturing all deserve to end up living in empty appliance cartons under an interstate overpass.

Summary: Strong, durable and well designed and easy assembly 2005-04-23
Comment: After a lot of research shopping, ALL the umbrellas I found, either on the web or in local retailers, do NOT automatically come with a base. That goes for both conventional or offset umbrellas. This item was designed to float in the breeze, but does need to be lowered if the wind picks up to more than that, as do most umbrellas. My favorite feature on this is the option for the mosquito netting, which zips on and off easily. It took two of us less than 10 minutes to get this out of the box and up.
